HATCHEL & STRAND

BIO

Alexandra La Paglia was born and raised on Nantucket where she now resides and works.  Throughout her life, La Paglia has had a deep appreciation for artifacts—some prized, discarded and sadly neglected. Her keen sense of observation, while living in Nantucket and later in New York City, provided the impetus for her recent work.

For the past year, La Paglia has “reinvented” lighting and lamps all of which are born from yesteryear:  old agricultural tools, musical instruments, machinery and functional domestic devices, and unknown objects that she has translated and reimagined into contemporary-feel sculpture. This process also recycles in a unique way and is a testament to bygone eras.
